The Switch From Quarters to Semesters…What Does This Mean For UV Residents?

Today the Lantern published an article called “Homeless During Finals Week”.  After a discussion on our Facebook page and a small comment featured in the article we want to open up and share in the discussion with all of you. 

It is true all the off-campus landlords have had to adjust their lease end dates for Summer of 2012 to accommodate the switch from quarters to semesters at Ohio State.  University Village has been well aware and informed of this process and we have partnered with Off-Campus Student Services at Ohio State to help meet the needs of the students and our residents.  We understand first you are here to attend school and this comes first.  If you are moving into University Village in the upcoming Fall of 2011 or have renewed your lease with us, the new lease end date will be July 31, 2012.  Of course for any resident who will be attending Summer classes we will work with everyone to extend their lease through August 9th after final exams have been completed on August 8th, 2012.  There are no additional fees to do this or  added stress that you may be “Homeless During Finals Week”.   If you need to extend  your lease for those 9 additional days you will of course be responsible for the pro-rated rent for those days, but we will not charge additional fees to meet your needs. Commencement falls on August 12th, 2012 and a special extension will be offered by request of a move out date on August 13, 2012.

Our suggestion for anyone living at University Village or any other community on or off-campus is to really have a clear understanding of your lease before signing.  Also understanding the terms and conditions as well.  If anyone has any concerns about  a lease or the terms of a lease, Ohio State offers amazing resources to students and will provide honest advice before you sign.  Please take the time to visit Student Legal Clinic  and Off-Campus Student Services if you have any questions about your lease or concerns about the switch from quarters to semesters.  These are great resources available to students in terms of off-campus living.
