Moving Out? Tips To Prepare For The Big Move!

For our current residents who will be moving on from University Village this August, we thought we would give you somewhat of a parting gift. We thought it would be helpful if we shared some tips and tricks to make the move-out process as easy as possible.

Break it down now…

Plan ahead! You will want to contact AEP, your cable provider, the post office and any other bill collectors about your change in address. If you are not transferring services (services such as cable/internet and electric) to your new housing location then be sure to cancel such services. Most importantly, be sure to notify bill collectors and the post office of your address change so you are sure to get all of your important mail!

It’s best to not wait until the night before your move-out date to pack up, but that’s a no-brainer. You’re going to need boxes right? Now, don’t go and pay for boxes when most supermarkets and stores are more than willing to just give left-over boxes to you for free!

If you have a lot of things to move make sure you are able to borrow a friend or family member’s truck. If you are renting a truck we suggest calling ahead much in advance as this is moving time not just for University Village residents but most off-campus residents surrounding the university.
Before you leave us…

Painting and Cleaning! If you have painted your walls since moving in, you will need to apply primer back onto the walls.  No need to get the exact paint color, just apply the primer to cover up the color.  If you have really dark walls like black, red, purple, blue, etc. you may need to apply two coats.  No need to worry about filling in those nail holes, just worry about big holes caused by heavy shelving, TV mounts or fists.

It is your responsibility to clean your apartment as thoroughly as possible. Please make sure you remove all of your belongings. You will want to clean the entire kitchen (inside/outside of stove, inside/outside of the refrigerator, clean out the cupboards, clean the sink and mop the floors). Also, you will want to clean the entire bathroom (toilet, bathtub, sink and mop the floors). A little reminder, clean out your stove thoroughly.

Lastly, turn off the lights before you leave no need to waste electricity and before you turn off of Harley Drive, remember to turn in all keys, parking permits and UV I.D.’s into the rent drop box located at the entrance of our office at 505 Harley Dr.

Good-luck with the 2011-2012 school year or where ever your path may lead you and remember you are always welcome at University Village!
